Four Monday Sessions, Sept. 20 - Oct. 11 Beginning in mid-September and ending the week of WORLD FOOD DAY in October, this course starts at the macro level, then delves into micro hunger issues. Through dialogue, active listening, prayer, readings and films, participants in these four classes grapple with the causes of hunger and food insecurity; and gain new insights and awareness on what individuals can do to help reduce or eliminate hunger. The coronavirus pandemic has left millions of families without stable employment. More than 50 million people, including 17 million children, experienced food insecurity in 2020. A household that is food insecure has limited or uncertain access to enough food to support a healthy life. It is time for us to learn more and take action! Fee: $25 per person. Scholarships are available: contact [email protected] for more information. Your facilitator: Members of the Casa Hunger Action Ministry.
Facilitator: Dr. Albert Celoza ON CAMPUS at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Dr., Paradise Valley, AZ This experiential workshop will introduce you to Catholic author Thomas Merton, his life, his work and his encounter with God. We will be guided by his ideas and experiences through meditation. We hope to learn and realize the meaning of true love which is compassion and peace by getting to know a great mystic of the 20th century. Thomas Merton in his book No Man is an Island said, "True happiness is found in unselfish love, a love which increases in proportion as it is shared." Pope Francis described Merton as "above all a man of prayer, a thinker who challenged the certitudes of his time and opened new horizons for souls and for the church. He was also a man of dialogue, a promoter of peace between peoples and religions." Fee: $30 PLEASE NOTE: Your registration confirmation will automatically generate a hyperlink as if this is an online program.
